Spot the Pop Culture Reference

You may have noticed a short absence on my blog. Eh, maybe not. I've thought about blogging a few times, but didn't know what to say. Possibly because I'm moving this week. Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up. We thought about buying an apartment, didn't, found a place to rent instead, and now are moving.

We want to move into a 2-bedroom so Husband can have a home office. After my last blog post, Husband and I met with a Realtor about buying an apartment. We got pre-qualified for a loan (that would buy us a 4-bedroom awesome Victorian house in Hometown, but gets us a crappy 2-bedroom apartment here). We looked at a few places and decided we didn't want to buy--too small and too risky for resale in a few years. So last week we started looking at 2-bedroom apartments for renting, thinking we wouldn't find anything yet. Wednesday, we saw 2 great places for the money and put in applications (renting is not only expensive in Paradise but really competitive). We didn't think we'd get them. When we went to turn in the app for the runner-up, they offered us the apartment. We set up an appointment for Friday morning to sign the lease. At 8:30 Thursday night, our first choice called us and asked if we were still interested. I told her the deal. She called her boss. She called me back and offered us the apartment. So, we canceled the one appointment for the other one and signed the lease for choice #1 Friday. It's only a couple of blocks from where we are now, so we're packing and taking over boxes one station-wagon load at at a time. We should be completely moved in on Saturday.

The runner up had a pool, a washer/dryer in unit, carpet. Our new place has a patio (complete with fairy garden ornament), washer and clothesline, no carpet (a plus), is so very cool (temperature wise), and quiet (we live next to an elementary school now). We have the crappiest car in the parking lot, which is funny because it's not really an expensive building. The new place feels right. Did I mention that it is cool?

Yeah, so I haven't felt like blogging much. We've actually packed and moved all of the easily boxed stuff. Our (old) apartment is now the messiest it has ever been, with little piles of oddly shaped stuff and unfiled papers in random places around the apartment. And trash and boxes. And recycling, We have several piles of recycling. We didn't think we'd be moving so soon, so there was nothing packed when we signed the lease for the immediately available apartment, and we're on month-to-moth here, so there was no end-of-lease rush. It's really a wonderful surprise, if expedient.
